Poison Ivy in color

Here's a small Poison Ivy I did the other night when I was thinking about doing some color art for cons. While I've painted in acrylics for years, I've got zero experience with watercolors so working with them is very different and interesting.
These days artists are doing a lot of different types of "con sketches" some in full color. I think that we need a new term here, because the kind of loose marker or pencil sketches that folks used to turn out at shows are becoming a thing of the past as they put out more and more elaborate art. I'm impressed with the equipment that some artists are willing to lug to a con, like Paulo Rivera god love him! Scroll down his blog and you'll see a photo of his overhead mirror set up.

Geez that is beautiful. With each new piece you post, I fall that much more in love with your style.

Can't wait to get one for my very own one of these days. Do you do Baltimore Con by any chance?

I've never gone to the Baltimore Con, maybe someday, till then there's always ebay. I've noticed lately that some of my con sketches go directly to ebay after the cons...not sure how I feel about that.

Mike,

Great painting! I wouldn't say that pencil drawing are a thing of the past; can't beat an old school style. But at the same time, I think its nice to add some color from time to time. Are you considering to add painting to your commission price list down the road?

I don't know about doing painted commissions, I think that would really start to get pricey because of the time they take. Most commissioners want my tight pencils, but at cons folks want the grey tone marker drawings so it's hard to figger these things ;)

Paulo is as great a guy as he is a talent. I love that set up of his as it is fun to be able to look over his shoulder while he creates.

Beautiful watercolor piece, by the way.
