Catwoman inks

I use mostly brush pens to ink with since I like the smoothness and variety in line you can get with them. This is especially good for drawing girls and organic stuff in general. I try new markers all the time and the best spot I have found on line to get them is  Jetpens.
Tones are copic cool gray markers. White highlights are put in with white gouache paint. White primacolor pencils work okay for this as well, but they tend to look a bit grainy to me.

Catwoman pencils

Here are the pencils for a recent Catwoman commish. For stuff like this I tend to work just tight enough so I know where I'll be going at the inking stage. I use a soft lead (4b) and it can get a bit messy.

Donna Troy, Troia

I can't say that I have a handle on this version of Donna Troy as a character, but I've always liked the way artists like Perez and Garcia Lopez handled this BW star field costume, but I think that this might be the first time I have drawn it.

Let's give the rabbit a hand!

Unfortunately, bad things sometimes happen to the nicest people. My friend Stan Sakai, the creator and artist of the long running Usagi Yojimbo series has often been called the nicest man in comics! His wife Sharon, is facing some staggering and costly health issues and some fine folks have put together a site for us to pledge a donation to help out. So if you ever felt like you'd like to give something back to a comic artist that has given so much great stuff over the years, now's your chance. It would also help if you could pass the word around online about the auction.
A lot of comic artists are also donating artwork to be auctioned for the cause.
Here's a link for more info

thanks.

Mother of Dragons, now with more dragons!

This started out as a gray marker commission drawing. I decided to tweek it a bit and add a couple more dragons than I had originally drawn. Daenerys is easily my favorite character in Game of Thrones...but no spoilers please, I am a season behind!

Boston HO!

This weekend is the rescheduled Boston Comic Con, I'll be there somewhere in artist alley. I hope that it's a fun show. It seems to be flying under folks radar
so I am a bit cautious. Plus it is in a new location so we will all have to wait and see how it all works out...fingers crossed

TMNT recreation of a recreation

A zillion years ago I did a painted reinterpretation of the original cover of TMNT#4 to be used as the cover for the reprint. That image was then used on a bunch of products, posters etc so lots of Turtle fans remember it fondly. This year at Comic Con, Nickelodeon redid it once again, using the current CG Turtle look and had the cast sign it. I didn't get a copy myself but it looked cool!

San Diego Comic Con 2013 wrapped!

I survived another comic con marathon in one piece. It was fun and frantic as usual. If possible it seemed like the crowd was even bigger than ever. I only got to walk the floor before the doors opened in the mornings but I got to see lots of cool stuff and met lots of cool folks. See you next year I hope ;)

See you at Comic Con!

San Diego will always be 'Comic Con' to me even though so many other regional cons have grabbed onto the name. Yup it's the big one, or as I like to think of it, the marathon :)
There is nothing quite like 5 days of crowds and none stop drawing to keep a guy on his toes. Based on the shear size of the con, the artist alley section is not too huge in comparison so believe me I am totally grateful be given a spot and join in the craziness!
I'll be at my west coast home away from home, Artist Alley DD22... with prints and art and I'll be chatting and drawing the whole dang time. I'm psyched ;)

Dooney sketchbook variant cover sketches

At the recent Heroes Con I debuted my latest con sketchbook full of super babe commissions as usual ;) I've been doing these books for a while now. Since I am often commissioned to draw on Marvel or DC blank cover variant comics, I thought that I would offer a blank cover 'artist edition' variant of my own book. This way, folks could commission me to draw on my own cover for a change rather than a Marvel or DC blank. Here are some that I did at the con, drawn in ink and gray copic markers. I plan to have some of these on hand at the cons I attend for the rest of the year but if you can't get to a con, and you are interested in picking up the regular or sketch cover edition, I've got them on my online store

Heroes Con this June 7-9 oh yeah

Time for my favorite con of the year.
I'll be in artist alley #1420 so if you are in the neighborhood, swing on by and see me (and a zillion other artists) in my natural habitat ;)
I'll probably have my head down drawing away, but I'm glad to talk and draw at the same time ;)

Ms.Marvel 1887 take #2

I sometimes get asked to do one of my 1887 theme pieces on a blank variant cover. I liked this one enough that I decided to rework it into my standard 1887 oval format. I removed what I had to in photoshop, printed it out, added back in some leg and clothes in marker and now she looks like she was always intended to live in the oval;)

Boston Comic Con and C2E2

I've got two cons in April, and for those interested, I've got a pre-con commish list going for both. Soooo, if you are attending the Boston Comic Con or C2E2 and wanted to set up something to be picked up at either show, drop  me a line and will will put you on my 'to-do' list. Doing some pieces before I hit the con takes the pressure off a bit so I am all for it ;)
I do all kinds of standard commissions, and lately I've been getting more requests for the blank variant covers like these. Thank the comic gods that the new DC blanks have good paper for copic markers....they must have heard my prayers, yea!

Sketch list for Megacon is open!

I just realized that Megacon in Orlando is less than a month away (March 15-17) so I figgered I'd pass along the head's up that I have a pre-con sketch list going for those of you that might be wanting to pick something up from me at the con. As usual I will be drawing the whole weekend while I am there, but it always a good to get some of the requests done at home before the craziness of the con. Sooo, if you want to set something up, drop me an email for details. I'm doing stuff like these...busts, figures, variant covers, 1887 themed pieces etc. thanks.

Hey there....

Sorry for dragging my feet about updating here...I'm more active with my DA site since it seems to be more interactive. Anyhoo, here's some stuff that you might not have seen!
