A couple of commissions

It's funny, my commissions usually fall into one of two categories...girls or Turtles. But just by chance I did two separate commissions recently that covered both ...girls from the TMNT comics! Radical is an American Indian mystical character (at least my version was) from the original black and white Turtle series and Cherubae is a mystical character from the Archie Turtle comic. I hadn't drawn either of these in years so that was fun!

Mandy looking for a new home

Okay, I've broken down and decided to part with one of the Mandy artist proof sketch cards I got as returns. I only did 9 hand drawn cards for the set, all fully rendered in color. Deja Thoris watercolor

Deja Thoris is the most beautiful woman on Mars, hmmn, that John Carter is pretty lucky.
You really owe it to yourself to read some of the John Carter of Mars books by ERBurroughs...especially before the movie comes out! The stories are really fun and exciting, the characters are beautiful and naked, and it's even got got an alien ever faithful "dog"...now,that's enough for me.
Another 9x12 ink and watercolor. One of these days I'll post one of these on ebay to try and get some kind of idea of what they might sell for at a con.

Here are a couple more Marvel Projects Blank Variant covers I did. I like mixing things up by not just doing Marvel characters on these, what can I say , I am easily amused. The paper that they used on these covers is really nice to draw on and it takes ink and copic markers really well!

Medusa is one of my all time fave comic characters, in fact I have the 1970's Kirby black light poster framed and hanging in my studio at home, it's groovy man ;)

Powergirl watercolor

Okay, we all know what Powergirl is famous for, but I always try to portray her as graceful and strong as well. I did this on an 11x17 sheet of comic book bristol board which works pretty well for watercolors.

Poison Ivy goes green

Another monotone watercolor painting. I'm doing these in a 9x12 watercolor pad that I've had forever and never used...the paper works really nicely for these so now I'm glad I didn't chuck it out in one of my studio closet purges!

I'm toying with some watercolor con sketch ideas. Normally, I have a tendency to turn everything into a big production so with these I'm trying to come up with a more streamlined monotone painting style that is still cool. Ink and watercolor on watercolor paper, 9x12.

TMNT Marvel's Project variant cover

I'll admit that I have fun drawing these wacky pics on the blank Marvel variant covers. There is just something slightly "off" about putting a non-Marvel character on them that really appeals to me ;)
Also, the fact that these usually sell for more $ than some of the more involved commissions that I do both amuses and baffles me, but who can understand the mysterious ways of the mighty collectors out there...so bid away my friends!

Go ahead and buy some art,please!

I'm doing some "stuck inside the house" studio clearing this weekend, so I've just listed a bunch of the original sketchcards I've drawn on ebay. I didn't realize that I had this many till I started putting them in a pile! Sketchcards are usually a fun way for folks to buy a piece of original art at a reasonable price..don't worry, these won't be selling for that crazy Mandy money ;)
What a card sells for usually depends more on how popular the character is than how nice the drawing is, you never know...oh yeah and boobs usually go for more $ too...;)

Mandy makes some cash for somebody!

I just noticed that one of the Mandy sketchcards I did for the Mandy set went for $225 on ebay...WOW! I guess now I need to rethink my idea of hanging onto the ones I've got ;) I must say that the sketchcard people are a dedicated bunch. I've found the collectors and artists to be really friendly and positive but they also don't let anything stand in their way when they want a particular card!
